Press release: Honour for computer scientist at Göttingen University

Professor Xiaoming Fu elected member of National Academy of Science and Engineering

 

Xiaoming Fu, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Göttingen, has been elected a member of the National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) in Germany. This distinguished honour recognizes Professor Fu's significant contributions in the fields of computer science and engineering including networked systems, mobile, cloud and edge computing, as well as big data. As a member of acatech, Fu will become part of a network of scientists committed to advancing scientific knowledge and tackling the challenges of our time.

 

Fu received his PhD from Tsinghua University in Beijing in 2000 and began his professional career at the Technische Universität Berlin. In 2002, he moved to the recently established Institute of Computer Science at the University of Göttingen as an assistant professor. In 2007, he was appointed as a University Professor of Computer Science, leading the Computer Networks Group.

 

Fu's research addresses pressing issues in information and communication technologies, in particular multi-access edge computing, information-oriented networking and social computing, which impact the telecommunications and computing industries as well as society in general. He is an IEEE Fellow, ACM Distinguished Member, member of Academia Europaea, founding co-chair of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Germany Chapter and former chair of the Internet Technical Committee of the IEEE Communications Society.
