Harz-Fire

Communicating fire-fighting and post-fire landscape change to society in the Harz mountains and beyond

Project Description

What happens during a forest fire – and how does the landscape recover afterwards? Harz-Fire brings research from the Goslar Forest Fire and Regeneration Laboratory (GoslarFFRLab) into the public eye. Together with local firefighters and Goslar City Forest, researchers from the University of Göttingen and RWTH Aachen investigate how different firefighting methods affect soils, pollutant transport, microclimate and forest regeneration.

A travelling exhibition featuring compelling photographs, accessible infographics and research findings will make these processes visible and understandable. The exhibition will visit schools, fire stations, public institutions and events in the Harz region and beyond. Complementary digital formats will provide lasting insights into the research.
