Doctoral Scholarships

A doctoral scholarship can secure the financing of your own doctoral project and thus help you to focus fully on your doctorate. However, not every scholarship covers the full cost of living, and the costs of health, unemployment, and pension insurance are not covered by a scholarship.

It is often possible to apply for a doctoral scholarship before you are admitted to the doctoral program. Please refer to the application guidelines of the individual scholarship providers. Below you will find information on how to search for scholarships, an overview of scholarship types, and links to databases.

Search for scholarships

- Research potential scholarship providers (see overviews below).
- Clarify your chances of receiving a particular scholarship (pay close attention to the eligibility requirements).
- Select a few scholarships that are best suited to you and write your applications (pay particular attention to whether the scholarship amount would cover most of your expected costs)
- Prepare for the oral selection process (if applicable)

Types of scholarships

A general distinction can be made between interdisciplinary and subject-specific scholarships.
