Recruitment of female scientists

Qualitative benchmarking and active recruitment of female scientists in professorial appointment procedures

Qualitative benchmarking and active recruitment of female scientists in professorial appointment procedures The innovative project “Qualitative benchmarking and active recruitment of female scientists in appointment procedures” at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences was funded as part of the Equal Opportunity Innovation Fund (2016-2020) from April 2017 to September 2018 (shortened project application). Funded by the Equal Opportunity Innovation Fund and the Women Professors Program.

General conditions
Current situation

  • Low percentage of women in the W1-W3 area at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, although there is a balanced gender ratio until after the post-doc phase
  • Pool of potentially suitable female candidates unclear -> high research effort, resulting in preselection for applications for approval (30% quota of the faculty) mostly from existing networks
  • Particular challenges in the current generational change

Project description

  • Establishment of nationwide agricultural benchmarking partners in order to agree on joint recommendations for action (e.g. uniform language for tenders, transparency, best practice exchange, etc.)
  • Increasing the profiles at FemConsult and thus the possibility of broad use by benchmarking partners

Objectives

  • Identification and visibility of potential female candidates
  • Increase the pool of female applicants (FemConsult)
  • Development of a guideline for active recruitment
  • Expansion of the project to other GAUG faculty(ies) in order to exploit synergy effects
