University Day in Münster

At the 27th dvs University Day from September 16-19, 2025, in Münster, all three divisions of the Institute of Sports Sciences were strongly represented. On the conference theme Sports Science: Diversity and Sustainability!?, Anja Bosold gave a lecture on the quantitative recording of the degree of participation of athletes in elite sports, and Mike Lowin presented his poster on the training effects of a 30-minute operational training session in 11th-grade physical education. Furthermore, Nils Haller (Effects of exercise therapy for depression and chronic non-specific back pain on pain intensity and functional limitation) and Jan Haut (Learning from football? A comparative study on antisemitism prevention in sports organizations) contributed further presentations. Additionally, Denis Glage, Sarah Metz, Kathrin Randl, Nico Selker, and Christa Stöcker participated in numerous symposia, workshops, and working groups. Maika Zweigert (currently on special leave) also presented her results on the parental perspective in competitive artistic gymnastics. Finally, we would like to welcome our new colleague Pit Gorzolka to the Sports Institute, who fortunately was already able to attend the congress.

Dies Academicus 2025

A small gymnastics festival has turned into one of Germany's largest sports and cultural festivals: The Dies Academicus attracted thousands of visitors again on June 18th. Under the motto "Experience Diversity" ("Feelfalt erleben"), the festival offered a colorful mix of sports, music, and encounters at a summery 27 degrees. Whether football tournament, pull-up contest, or speed climbing – everywhere people were cheering, trembling with excitement, and celebrating. There was a special novelty in the football tournament this year: For the first time, the lecturer team of the Institute of Sports Sciences fielded its own team. Together with all three professors, the staff competed in the group phase against the team of the Student Council as well as the Cafete – a sporting competition that was great fun for all involved.

Day of the Final Phase in the Summer Semester 2025

At this year's "Day of the Final Phase" of the Faculty of Social Sciences, our Sports Institute was also represented with two program items. In the morning, Kathrin Randl, Anna Adlwarth, and Sarah Metz gave an insight into what "the path to the final thesis in Sports Sciences" looks like. There was lively interest from sports students who are currently facing the challenge of writing their final thesis themselves. They were able to pick up useful tips and advice from the lecturers and gain inspiration for their own project through examples of already successfully completed works by other students. In the afternoon, Denis Glage was also present at a presentation of the social science master's programs and promoted our sports science master's program "Prevention, Rehabilitation and Psychosocial Health". Overall, the Day of the Final Phase was once again a complete success from a sports science perspective.

Day of the Final Phase in the Winter Semester 2024/25

On November 07, 2024, the "Day of the Final Phase" took place for the third time in the Oeconomicum. In addition to various lectures from the different study programs of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the poster presentations of selected graduates were once again a special highlight. Here, the diverse posters provided a varied insight into the final theses of the various sports science sub-disciplines. In the division of Sociology of Sports and Health, the posters by Melchior Jel Brosig on the diversity and inclusivity of the climbing and bouldering community and by Marco Niederlag on the opportunities and challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic for swimming lessons at primary schools were presented. Furthermore, in the division of Sports Pedagogy, Debora Synofzik dealt with teachers' perspectives on the integration of movement breaks into lessons, Naila Thomsen with influences of development in adolescence with regard to insecurity in physical education, and Pauline Schollmeyer (absent due to illness) with the influence of disregard and exclusion in physical education on the self-concept and social-emotional development of children and adolescents. Finally, in the division of Training and Movement Science, Mike Lowin presented his work on the training effects of a 30-minute operational training session in 11th-grade physical education. Furthermore, the lecturers Anja Bosold, Tobias Hillebrand, Kathrin Randl, and Christa Stöcker were available to interested students for further questions regarding final theses. We would like to thank the graduates very much for the successful presentations.

Göttingen, October 2024

Dear Students,

as the newly elected Executive Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences, I welcome you warmly to the Winter Semester 2024/25. I hope you had a successful start to the semester.

At the beginning of the semester, I would like to give you some important information:

  • Dr. Jan Haut has been representing the professorship for Sociology of Sports and Health since October 2024. After studying social sciences in Giessen & Leicester, he received his doctorate in sports science (Saarland University), habilitated (Goethe University Frankfurt), and has already represented various professorships. His areas of work include, in particular, societal effects of elite sports, social inequalities & discrimination in sports, as well as theoretical and historical perspectives on the transformation of sports. Having grown up in the Harz Mountains and still very connected to the region, he is happy to be here more often again. A warm welcome!

  • We also warmly welcome Mike Lowin as a new research associate in the division of Training and Movement Science. After successfully completing his studies in Sports and Mathematics, he will support the division in the future in seminars on performance development in team and individual sports. We are very much looking forward to working with him!

  • On November 22, 2024, there will be an anniversary event for the 100th anniversary of Sports Science and institutional University Sports. Since its foundation in 1924 as the Institute for Physical Exercises, the institute has undergone significant development and strongly shaped sports science and university sports in Germany. On the occasion of this anniversary, we look back on a history rich in tradition. This event is primarily aimed at employees and invited guests – we look forward to an inspiring exchange and a successful anniversary celebration.

  • Finally, I would like to thank the Student Council and the team of the Cafete in particular. Your commitment is invaluable, and I am pleased to see how you enrich student life at the institute and ensure a lively togetherness through your work in the background. The Cafete is an excellent place to exchange ideas, rest, or recharge your batteries – I hope many of you use this space regularly.

I wish you a successful and exciting semester. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our dedicated Student Council or me directly. You can reach me at any time via email or visit me during my office hours.

All the best and kind regards

Yoon-Sun Huh

Excursions in the Summer Semester 2024

Also in the last semester, various excursions were carried out at the Institute of Sports Sciences within the framework of courses. These are recorded here in the sense of a brief review as follows:

The event "Holistic Promotion of Personality Development – Excursion Edersee" took place from July 19 to July 23, 2024, in Vöhl, directly on the Edersee in Hesse. A total of 22 students were accommodated together with lecturers Christopher Schumann and Kathrin Randl with full board at the Sports, Nature and Adventure Camp Edersee of the Sports Youth Hesse. Building on the seminar "Concepts for Promoting Personality Development through Sports and Movement-Related Activities" by Christopher Schumann, the participants were able to experience and expand their personal limits on site. The motto "Out of everyday life – Into nature" was implemented thanks to the good weather in and on the lake as well as in the forest. Further experiential education activities rounded off the extensive program. It was an enriching time with all involved, which will remain in the best memory.

From August 12 to August 16, 2024, the excursion "Teambuilding and Personality Development through Diverse Movement Opportunities in Urban Space" took place in Berlin. Lecturers Louis Hoogendoorn and Christa Stöcker as well as 21 students of the teacher training programs (Grammar School Teaching & Business Education) found accommodation in the educational center of the Sports Youth Berlin, directly on the grounds of the Olympic Park. There, a large seminar room, diverse room and material offers as well as good catering provided the best framework conditions for the course. Despite high temperatures throughout the week as well as a forest hike plagued by mosquitoes, the group held up bravely and some memorable moments arose on the excursion, from which important experiences grew that will not be forgotten by the participants anytime soon.

From September 21 to September 28, the excursion "Windsurfing and Catamaran Sailing" was carried out in Dranske on Rügen. Together with windsurfing instructors David Achsel, Felix Domrös, and Ronja Putzer (all former Göttingen sports students!) of the water sports school "Rügen Piraten" and lecturers Tina Funke (teaching assignment) and Dr. Daniel Großarth, 27 sports students acquired the basic windsurfing license. After initially simple wind conditions from Sunday to Tuesday, the wind increased from Wednesday to Friday up to wind force 7. Everyone had a lot of fun and a lot of wind in their sails. It was once again a very beautiful and intense time with all involved, which remains unforgotten.

Presentation of New Representatives of the Professorships at the Institute of Sports Sciences

Since April 1, 2024, we represent the professorships "Sports Pedagogy and Sports Didactics", "Training and Movement Science", and "Sociology of Sports and Health" and would like to briefly introduce ourselves!

Bild Vorstellung (from left: Martin Minarik, Yoon-Sun Huh, Niklas Joisten)

Dr. Yoon-Sun Huh administers the professorship for Sports Pedagogy and Sports Didactics. She completed a BA and MA degree in "Human Movement & Performance" as well as "Sport & Leisure Science" at EHWA Womans University in Seoul, Korea. She completed her doctorate on the topic "Intercultural Movement and Sports Education" in 2010 at the University of Osnabrück, Department of Educational and Cultural Sciences. Her focal points in teaching are: Sports pedagogy and sports didactics, movement, play and sports under the aspect of health promotion, psychomotor development promotion across the lifespan. Subject areas in research are: Body and movement-related educational processes in school and extracurricular contexts, as well as questions of migration, education, and health with a view to school and extracurricular fields of action of movement, play, and sports. For her, teaching and studying has something to do with "curiosity", with "discoveries", with "adventure", active "acting", "moving", "changing and developing". For her, the university is the place where teachers and students inspire each other, motivate each other, and advance their knowledge and skills, imagination, and personality in dialogue. In this spirit, Dr. Yoon-Sun Huh looks forward to good cooperation with students and the University of Göttingen!

Dr. Niklas Joisten administers the professorship for Training and Movement Science. He received his doctorate in 2021 at the German Sport University Cologne before subsequently moving to the Institute of Sports and Sports Science at the Technical University of Dortmund as a Post-Doc. In addition to sports therapy topics, especially in neurological and oncological diseases, his research focus lies particularly on the influence of sports and exercise on certain metabolic pathways and on the immune system. His teaching activities include courses in the fields of training science and sports medicine.

Dr. Martin Minarik administers the professorship for Sociology of Sports and Health. He studied Theater, Film, and Media Studies in Vienna and soon became particularly interested in theatricality and staging outside of institutionalized theater, especially in sports and society during his studies. As part of his doctorate at the Institute of Movement Science at the University of Hamburg in the Department of Culture, Media, and Society, he dealt with sports and cultural sociological questions regarding the embodiment of identity and ideology/ies. In his dissertation, he addressed the performative production of norms, values, and ideals in Taekwondo practice in South Korea. His current focuses in research and teaching are: Sociology of sports and culture with a special focus on praxeological and neo-phenomenological theories and methods, performativity and theatricality, embodiment of identity(ies) and ideology(ies) as well as sports and social cohesion. His special interest still applies not least to martial arts and combat sports in theory and practice. Martin Minarik is also a member of the Göttingen Center for Modern East-Asian Studies (CeMEAS) and currently spokesperson of the dvs Commission "Martial Arts and Combat Sports" (https://www.sportwissenschaft.de/kkk/). Personal exchange with students and individual supervision within the framework of final theses are particularly important to Martin Minarik.

We are happy to be available for further information on the individual persons and teaching/research projects. You can contact us at any time via email or visit us personally in our office hours: https://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/organisatorisches/123309.html

We look forward to working with students and employees at the Sports Institute!

Göttingen, February 2024

Dear Students,

usually, I contact you in my function as Executive Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences at the beginning of a semester and welcome you warmly. In this Winter Semester 2023/24, everything is a bit different. I am contacting you (also) at the end of the semester – and saying goodbye to you. After 15 years as a professor in Göttingen, I am moving to the University of Bremen on April 01, 2024, and building a new sports science institute including various study programs there with a new team.

With me, several colleagues are leaving the board of the Institute of Sports Sciences: Dr. Ingo Helmich is taking up a professorship in Boston (USA), Dr. Corinna Schmechel is moving as a PostDoc to the Department of Gender Studies of our Faculty of Social Sciences, Denise Rohleder and Maika Zweigert are also moving with me to the University of Bremen. As Chairwoman of the Board of the Institute of Sports Sciences, I thank the aforementioned for very constructive joint board work and wish them all the best.

Teaching in the Summer Semester 2024 will be secured by the short-term hiring of new staff members. Corresponding advertisements have been published; the selection procedures have already started and are being led by the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

To you, dear students, I now wish much success for your future, much happiness in life - and fulfillment in everything you do. It was a pleasure to be with you.

AbschiedBoard members of the Institute of Sports Sciences until 31.03.24: (back row from left to right): Dr. Ingo Helmich (Interim Professorship Training and Movement Science), Denise Rohleder (Representative of Academic Staff), Dr. Corinna Schmechel (Interim Professorship Sociology of Sports and Health), Maika Zweigert (Equal Opportunities Officer), Niklas Tag (Student Representative) (front row): Heiko Hartje (Representative MTV), Prof. Dr. Ina Hunger (Chairwoman of the Board)

Göttingen. Big donation from children's hands: At their Nicholas festival, the Hölty School handed over a check for more than 7800 Euros to the Göttingen initiative "Luftsprung". The money had been collected in the summer during a charity run by the elementary school students at the Hölty School.

Prof. Ina Hunger, Executive Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences, accepted the donation during the festival. Although there are always larger donations to "Luftsprung", it is something special when a school donates so much money, emphasized Hunger. "Luftsprung" is a sports and movement offer for children with cancer. The donation-funded project is supported by the University Medical Center Göttingen and the Institute of Sports Sciences of the University of Göttingen. frs

Göttingen, October 2022

Dear Students,

I would like to welcome you warmly to the Winter Semester 2022/23 at the Institute of Sports Sciences. I hope you spent a nice summer and are now looking forward to the start of your studies or a new semester.

As has happened in the past, I would like to provide you with some important information at the beginning of the semester:

  • We are pleased that the substitutions for the professorships of Training and Movement Science and Sociology of Sports and Health continue to be ensured in the winter semester by our esteemed colleagues Pia Vinken, Ph.D., and Dr. Dennis Krämer.

  • The Professorship for Sports Pedagogy and Didactics, – that is, myself – , have been on a year released exclusively for research since October 1, 2022. My teaching will be covered in the next two semesters by my staff members of the division of Sports Pedagogy and Didactics. My function as Executive Director is being taken over by Ms. Vinken as deputy for this time; contact person for the concerns of the division of Sports Pedagogy and Didactics is Ms. Denise Rohleder.

  • Apl. Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Waldhoff, division of Sociology of Sports and Health, will leave us in January 2023 and retire. We regret this! We will express our detailed thanks to him upon his departure. But there is also personnel growth in the division of Sociology of Sports and Health: We welcome Anja Bosold as a new research associate for the winter semester.

  • Growth can also be recorded at the division of Sports Pedagogy and Didactics – albeit in a different respect: Maika Zweigert, Kyra Druivenga, Janine Selonke, and Ulrike Grell are happy about (arrived or announced) offspring and will offer no or less teaching in the winter semester according to their maternity and parental leave periods. The tasks of the colleagues in teaching and examination matters will be covered within the realms of possibility by corresponding substitution arrangements.

  • Since Sports/Sports Sciences remains a very popular subject in which students comparatively often want to write their final thesis, we ask you to endeavor early for supervisors and reviewers for your bachelor's and master's theses.

  • The swimming pool of the University Sports Center will be without water in the coming months due to the changed energy supply situation. It is currently being examined to what extent our swimming courses can be carried out in another swimming pool as (split) block courses during the lecture-free period. However, all other practical courses will take place as announced. Our degree program coordinator, Christa Stöcker, will regularly submit more detailed information on teaching operations to you.

We all know that we at the Institute of Sports Sciences must also arm ourselves more against the Corona virus again towards autumn and winter and, moreover, dress warmly ... Mastering these challenges will certainly not be quite easy, but is unavoidable. Ultimately, we must realize that these challenges are certainly not the biggest compared to other current problems in the world.

I wish that you start the semester with much confidence, curiosity, and drive; that you build knowledge, competencies, and friendships! Communicate with us or the dedicated Student Council in case of difficulties or questions – and recover every now and then with a drink or similar in the great Cafete at the grandstand.

All the best and kind regards

Ina Hunger

Prof. Dr. Ina Hunger – Executive Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences

Prof. Dr. Ina Hunger has been elected again by the members of the professional association "German Society of Sport Science" (dvs) to the Ethics Council and appointed as spokesperson of the Ethics Council. We congratulate Ina Hunger on this important office.

Dear Students,

Mrs. Hunger is conducting an excursion to Greece again this semester after a corona-related break, together with the German Olympic Academy and the sports science institutes of other partner universities. This is titled "Olympic Movement in the Context of Education and Politics" and will take place from September 18-25, 2022. The participation fee for students is 375 Euros, whereby the arrival and departure from and to Athens must be organized and borne individually. Through funding from the University Association, students can be supported with a pro-rata contribution of 200 Euros. There are still remaining places available for this excursion. Interested students should please contact Prof. Hunger directly via email for further information.

Sincerely, Christa Stöcker

Dear Students,

I would like to briefly outline the current situation.

  • We are pleased that Dr. Dennis Krämer has taken over the interim administration of the professorship for Sociology of Sports and Health this semester and welcome him warmly.
  • Dr. Pia Vinken has extended her contract as Interim Professor for Training and Movement Science, which has existed since 2020, and will – just like Mr. Krämer – hold the administrative position until approx. end of 2023.
  • At the end of 2023, we hope, we can then permanently fill both professorships. The corresponding release applications and advertisements are currently under review.
  • Not present due to parental and child-rearing times in this summer semester are Maika Zweigert and Dr. Benjamin Zander. We congratulate both on the corresponding events in their families.
  • Our colleague Gundula Otte retired last semester. We wish her (not only in this way …) a beautiful retirement time and thank her (not only in this way …) for her decades of dedication to the institute.
  • At the end of the last semester, two permanent colleagues, Dr. Oliver Klassen and Dr. Thomas Ohrt – both Training and Movement Science –, left the institute and found a new sphere of activity.
  • Due to the departures of the two colleagues, there were some teaching vacancies at the beginning of this semester. We apologize for this. The positions are currently being refilled.
  • In this context, we welcome Mr. Bastian Geisler, who has been supporting the division of Training and Movement Science for a few weeks. We also welcome Mr. Andreas Becke, who started his service a few days ago (June 1). Both colleagues are employed for two years. A third advertisement in the field of Training and Movement Science is immediately planned.
  • We are pleased that our degree program coordinator Christa Stöcker is healthy again. her illness-related absence at the beginning of the semester led to some bottlenecks in teaching planning and communication. Now we can rely on her drive again.

So much for today! Have a nice summer and kind regards to everyone

Ina Hunger (Executive Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences)

logoWe need You!

On June 12, a movement festival for the project Luftsprung is to take place. Luftsprung (https://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/509081.html) is a weekly, individual, and colorful sports and movement offer for children and adolescents who are suffering from cancer or who are already in aftercare, but also for siblings and friends. It is a joint project of the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) and the Chair/Division of Sports Pedagogy of the University of Göttingen. The sports offer has existed since 2015 and is free of charge for the affected children and adolescents. Financing is provided exclusively by donations, as sports therapy in pediatric oncology is not yet established in standard care by health insurance companies. Normally, a summer festival takes place every year. To implement the movement festival this year, we need your help! Within the framework of the seminar: Project Management: Project 'Luftsprung' - Movement Festival for Children with Cancer (Course Number: 869012), students want to plan and carry out a movement festival. The goal is to implement a movement festival on Sunday, June 12, 2022. The students will work independently in small groups and plan, discuss, and carry out actions. If you also feel like supporting such a project and getting credits for it, then feel free to come to the course! The next date is on May 5 at 8 am in the seminar room Level 3 (Aquarium). Sincerely Kyra Druivenga

Dear colleagues and students,

I would like to welcome you warmly in my new position as Interim Professor for Sociology of Sports and Health, which I took over on April 1, 2022.

So that you can get a first impression of me:

My research interests lie in the field of sports and health sociological gender studies with a focus on the societal treatment of people with variants of sex development ("Intersexuality"), as well as in the field of digital health technologies, e.g., contact tracing apps in the COVID-19 pandemic. You all know the latter e.g. from the Corona-Warn-App.

In my role as Interim Professor, I will take over the courses and teaching tasks in the coming semesters.

I look forward to meeting you all personally soon.

Until then

Dennis Krämer

Dear Students,

with the nationwide decided regulations on contact restrictions for November, we at the Institute of Sports Sciences had made the regulation to suspend face-to-face teaching in the practical courses ("Sports Practice") until the end of November (see announcement of Oct 28, 2020). Since the infection rate is still at a high level and contact minimization is also still encouraged nationwide, we have decided – also in view of the upcoming holidays and the associated larger family gatherings – to have the practical courses take place only digitally for the rest of this year. At the same time, we consider the practical experiences within the framework of face-to-face teaching to be essential components of a sports science study program and would like to meet our educational mandate in this sense and enable you to have these experiences and learning opportunities. For this reason, we are planning with face-to-face teaching starting in January (subject to the infection rate allowing this then). Face-to-face teaching takes place along the hygiene measures of the institute. These can be found in the hygiene concept on the start page of the institute homepage. More detailed information on the individual courses can be obtained via the respective instructor in studip.

We congratulate the Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences, Professor Dr. Ina Hunger, on her election as spokesperson of the Ethics Council of the German Society of Sport Science.

Dear Students,

since yesterday we have certainty that the professorships of the departing colleagues J. Mayer and Gerd Thienes can be represented by two very qualified scientists (initially for one year). We are very pleased about this. Next week, the colleagues will introduce themselves briefly at this point.

We continue to work towards ensuring that the chairs are permanently preserved and that we may advertise the vacant professorships promptly (and permanently) again. In this context, we are currently challenged to develop conceptually designed considerations for the future of the Institute of Sports Sciences. We will do this in close coordination with the Dean's Office, which supports us in our efforts to maintain the positions and structures at the institute.

Regarding the two vacant half positions, these may be filled promptly, but only for a limited time. We hope to be able to introduce these staff members to you shortly as well.

With best regards

Göttingen, Oct 09, 2020 Prof. Dr. Ina Hunger (Executive Director)

Dear Students,

one week ago today (on Sep 08, 2020), I informed you that two of the three professorships at the Institute of Sports Sciences (IfS) will leave the institute in the coming winter semester and that, in addition, the filling procedures for two permanent positions in the Master "Prevention/Rehabilitation/Mental Health" were currently not allowed to be continued. I promised you that we would inform you weekly about the current situation at this point to enable transparency and reduce additional uncertainties on your part.

The Board of the IfS submitted a ten-page statement on the current situation and the future of the IfS to the Dean's Office and Presidium on Sep 09, 2020. In this, we request the refilling of the two promptly vacant professorships as well as the continuation of the hiring procedures regarding the two vacant permanent positions in order to maintain the training structures at the institute in the short and long term. In the statement, we also clarify that the immediately imminent vacancy of 34 semester hours in scientific teaching cannot be covered with the current personnel and that the institute relies on corresponding personnel funds being allocated again immediately. Currently, we are still waiting for an answer or a meeting appointment.

Once again, I ask for your patience and confidence – even if it is difficult.

With best regards

Göttingen, Sep 15, 2020 Prof. Dr. Ina Hunger (for the Board)

Dear Students,

as you may have learned from social media, the Institute of Sports Sciences is in a challenging situation. Prof. Dr. Jochen Mayer (Sociology of Sports and Health) and Prof. Dr. Gerd Thienes (Training and Movement Science) will take up a new position at the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd and the University of Vechta respectively. Thus, two of the total of three professorships will leave our institute at or during the course of the Winter Semester 20/21.

Connected with the call of the professors is the circumstance that currently, in addition, two half positions in the academic mid-level staff (permanent positions) in the areas "Health and Sports Pedagogy" and "Health and Sports Sociology" may not be filled.

We would like to inform you at this point that we will do everything for the (both short-term and permanent) refilling of the positions in order to maintain teaching in the study programs and work at the institute. In doing so, however, we are bound by decisions and fund allocations on the part of the Presidium or Dean's Office and ask you in this sense for some patience and confidence. We will update you weekly at this point.

Dear Sports Students, here you will find current information on teaching in SoSe 2020 Information on Teaching in the Summer Semester

Dear Sports Students, due to the Corona pandemic, we have had to draw corresponding consequences for our institute. Please note the following instructions:

The premises of the Institute of Sports Sciences (offices, secretariats, seminar rooms, etc.) are only accessible to students to a limited extent and only in urgent cases via the stone staircase at the north parking lot. We will publish corresponding modalities shortly. The sports facilities are closed.

Office hours can generally be attended by telephone at the designated time. Please contact the respective lecturers via email in advance of the envisaged office hour regarding this.

The Secretariat will no longer be continuously staffed. However, you can generally reach the administrative staff by phone and email. Please submit documents that you wanted to submit personally by post now. The mail is regularly forwarded to the addressee.

The teaching operation is suspended with immediate effect. The start of lectures originally planned for April 14, 2020, is initially postponed to April 20, 2020. The decision on a possible further postponement and possibly an extension of the lecture period will depend on the further development of the Corona pandemic. We are currently examining to what extent we can block courses at a later date or possibly digitize them.

Examination achievements in presence are suspended effective immediately. This also affects, among other things, the retake exams of the lecture courses. Of course, we strive to ensure that you do not suffer any disadvantages due to the postponed resumption of teaching and examination operations.

We ask you to inform yourselves regularly about general developments on the info page (https://www.uni-goettingen.de/cv-info). We wish you good health and all the best in these challenging times Ina Hunger (Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences)

The Sports Institute Göttingen moved into the premises at its current location in 1971. With currently approx. 700 students, we are one of the largest sports science institutions in Northern Germany.

The range of studies includes bachelor's programs with the profiles Grammar School Teaching, Teaching at Vocational Schools (major in Business Education), and Non-Teaching (extracurricular labor market). We offer two different master's programs: the Master of Education (MEd), which qualifies for the preparatory service at grammar schools, as well as the Master Sports Science with the focal points Prevention and Rehabilitation. Furthermore, structured doctoral studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences are also possible.

Our institute is characterized in the individual divisions by focal points in school sports research, in child and youth sports as well as health aspects of movement, sports, and play. Thanks to various cooperations, for instance with the Rehazentrum Junge in the field of Prevention and Rehabilitation and the Social Pediatric Center of the University Medical Center Göttingen, the specialist clinic Waldweg as well as partners from junior elite sports, our students have the opportunity to gain insight into profession-relevant structures and research projects at an early stage.

The location is also characterized by short distances to the university facilities, the very well-equipped library as well as modern sports facilities for many types of sports.
